Our Liturgy

Our new missal has now been published and can be previewed by clicking on the image on the left. Some sample preview pages are reproduced below

Whilst our Bishop developed the New Sarum liturgy he has given permission for any Rite of the Eucharist (or other Sacrament) which is, or has been, promulgated by any of the greater Churches of East or West, to be used freely by clergy according to pastoral needs.

So, if a community has come to us from an Anglican tradition they can continue to use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Those from Roman background may use either Tridentine or Reformed liturgy in the language of their choice.

1st Community use of the New Sarum Liturgy, Feast of the Transfiguration 2011

"In developing this liturgy for the use of the Ecumenical Christian Church of the UK I have drawn on several sources as well as on experience and discussion with the membership of the church, both clergy and laity.

A particular vote of thanks goes to Father Stephen and Brother Luke in Australia for their work in producing the New Jerusalem Liturgy, some elements of which have been incorporated into this liturgy. Serious thanks also to Father Nick for his work on the layout and presentation.

The New Sarum Liturgy is offered to any who wish to use it in the same way that its celebration is open to any who wish to approach or who feel called to it by the one great host of all celebration.

It is fitting to promulgate this liturgy on the feast of the Transfiguration in the tenth year of my episcopate since it, like all liturgy and ministry, is meant to show forth the glory of God and offer true praise to the Eternal Trinity."

Whilst going through the process of development, and several drafts; one thought was constant and for which I thank Bishop Dominic Martin in the USA – he once told me that an independent catholic liturgy should be such that a person seeing the celebration of the liturgy for the first time should recognize immediately that it is a Christian liturgy in the Catholic tradition whilst equally immediately seeing that it is not a Roman Catholic Mass. That has been my guiding thought
